First Lines Friday – Grace & Fury by Tracy Banghart

Happy Fri-yay!

I haven’t been very active on my blog, Twitter or Instagram last week. This is because we have a new family member, Fancy the parakeet! He is amazing, cute and I love playing with him. Taming a parakeet isn’t that hard, but it does take a lot of time and patience. I’m having so much fun with it and Fancy makes me really happy!

Today I’m participating in the Book Beginnings meme hosted by Rose City ReaderBook Beginnings is a weekly tag that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are currently reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

What is the first line of the book I am currently reading?

Grace & Fury

Currently I’m reading Grace & Fury by Tracy Banghart.

In a world where women have no rights, sisters Serina and Nomi Tessaro face two very different fates: one in the palace, the other in prison.

Serina has been groomed her whole life to become a Grace–someone to stand by the heir to the throne as a shining, subjugated example of the perfect woman. But when her headstrong and rebellious younger sister, Nomi, catches the heir’s eye, it’s Serina who takes the fall for the dangerous secret that Nomi has been hiding.

Now trapped in a life she never wanted, Nomi has only one way to save Serina: surrender to her role as a Grace until she can use her position to release her sister. This is easier said than done. A traitor walks the halls of the palace, and deception lurks in every corner. But Serina is running out of time, imprisoned on an island where she must fight to the death to survive and one wrong move could cost her everything.”

First line

“Serina Tessaro stood on the steps of the fountain in Lanos’s central piazza flanked by nine other girls her age, all in their finest gowns. Her brilliant smile never dimmed, even as the thick, coal-hazed twilight tried to choke her.”

First impressions

The first line of Grace & Fury made me very curious about where this book was going. It reveals the story takes place in Lanos, a fictional place that I want to learn more about. Serina is one of the main characters and she is introduced first thing.

Currently I’m on page 110 of 310 and the story is easy to read and very entertaining. Although, so far not much has happened that isn’t in the synopsis.. I hope the story gets a bit more exciting and I’m waiting for a plot twist.

Have you read Grace & Fury?
