Book Review – Spectacle Vol. 1 by Megan Rose Gedris

It has been such a long time since I read a graphic novel. When I saw Spectacle by Megan Rose Gedris, I had to read it. The cover looks fascinating.

Want to know what this novel is about and what I think of it?

I received an e-ARC of this graphic novel from NetGalley and Oni Press.

Spectacle Vol. 1

Spectacle is a compelling tale of magic, deception, and wonder in this stunningly illustrated graphic novel about the bond between sisters.

Pragmatic engineer Anna works as a psychic in the Samson Brothers Circus, but she doesn’t believe in anything supernatural—until her twin sister Kat is murdered and comes back as a very demanding ghost. Sharing a room with her sister was hard, but now they’re sharing a body while trying to identify the killer. With few leads, a troupe full of secretive folk, and strange paranormal occurrences popping up around the circus, solving the case seems near impossible. But the murderer in their midst may be the least of their problems…

Enchanting

Let’s start by saying the illustrations of this novel were gorgeous. I love the style, the setting (a circus!) and the colors. The illustrations were the main reasons why I enjoyed this novel so much.

Because I did really enjoy it. The story starts with Anna who finds her twin sister, Kat, murdered in their room. Kat comes back as a ghost. Although Anna is a fortune teller/psychic in the circus, she does not believe in supernatural things. To see her sister as a ghost is a real shock for her. Anna tells the circus master Jebediah Tetanus her sister is murdered, but he decides to tell the rest of the circus crew Kat’s death was an accident. He askes Anna to figure out who the murderer is. While investigating the murder, Anna finds more mysteries along the way.

Spectacle is a multi-volume series; Book Two will follow in Summer 2019.
Volume 1 is published on May 22, 2018.

I would recommend this novel to everyone who appriciates some nice illustrations, who likes the circus and to who likes a good mystery with a dose of humor.

4 out of 5 stars.
