Legendary

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister, Scarlett, from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister’s. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice, but now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever…

Caraval and Legendary

Welcome to Caraval . . . the games have only just begun

Let’s start by saying that I loved Caraval and I couldn’t wait to read Legendary. The second book starts where the first book ended. Scarlett has just won Caraval and she is ready for her happily ever after. But she doesn’t know Tella made a bargain with a stranger who calls himself ‘a friend’. Tella has a dept to repay and this can only be done by giving her ‘friend’ Caraval Master Legend’s true name. To find out his true name, she has to play the game once more and she needs to win.

While Caraval was told from the point of view from Scarlett, Legendary is told from Donatella’s perspective. We get to know her better and she is an exceptional main character. She is sassy, smart and passionate (& a bit impulsive). I loved reading from Tella’s perspective, but I do wish the relationship between the sisters was developed more. But we do get to know more about the the childhood of Scarlett and Tella and that was really interesting.

Julian and Dante also return in Legendary. After reading Caraval I would have never expected to say this, but Dante is my new crush and I just adore him!

There are also a couple of new characters in Legendary, like Jacks. Jacks is the heir to the throne and rumour is that he murdered people who got in his way to the throne. Although he isn’t a likeable, he is a fascinating character.

Legendary is, just like Caraval, full of twists and turns. I couldn’t put the book down and I just had to know.. Who is Legend? Is Tella going to win? What does her ‘friend’ need Legend’s true identity for? Will Tella and Scarlett find their happiness?

I’m not going to say much more about this novel.. If you are planning on reading Legendary, my advice is to enjoy getting lost in the adventure of Caraval with Tella. I hope you will love it as much as I did.

  1. I love this series, too! It’s magical and fun and I agree that the relationship between Tella and Scarlett could be more developed. I did not know what to expect at the end of Legendary and I loved that. I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole time reading it.
